Contxto – It seems like Glovo is not afraid of playing as the away team, and it certainly likes to venture into the lion’s den.

As it paves its way into the Latin American market, Glovo, the Spanish last-mile delivery app, has settled in Bogotá to expand international operations.

Rappi’s opponent chose Colombia’s capital because of its strategic geographic positioning. Moreover, it chose Bogotá due to the market’s potential to launch new products and services.

The startup was founded in Barcelona in 2015, and it’s already operating in more than 30 cities worldwide. It is even present in some Middle Eastern and South American countries.

Glovo has other modus operandi as well. For instance, Glovo Business directly helps local businesses leverage the startup’s logistics and transportation resources to outsource delivery services instead of hiring an in-house team.

It’s also trying to compete with Amazon Foods and Cornershop with its grocery delivery service, SuperGlovo.

It seems like the last-mile delivery bubble is about to burst and only the fittest will survive. At the end of the day it’s a margins game. Sad to say so, but it is now a commodity business.
