Contxto – Now more than ever, the world needs socially-responsible startups. They in turn need funding opportunities—which aren’t exactly in abundance at the moment. Fortunately, there are programs like the CEMEX-TEC Award that provide these enterprises with seed capital to continue growing and more importantly, help others.

Judges for the CEMEX-TEC Award are still receiving applications from entrepreneurs with projects that make a social impact. The 10 best proposals will participate in a one-week bootcamp program in Mexico.

The top three proposals will each receive US$10,000 in seed funding.

You can apply for the award through one of the following two categories:

  • Social Entrepreneurs
  • Community Entrepreneurship

But keep in mind that the deadline to apply is June 30.

Social Entrepreneurs

If you’re one to believe that a business can be sustainable and make a positive impact on society and/or the environment through innovation, this category is for you.

The CEMEX-TEC Award is looking for early-stage startups with at least one year of operations. Applicants must be able to provide qualitative and quantitative evidence of the project’s impact. Likewise, the competition is open to entrepreneurs from all countries, so don’t let geography stop you.

In any case, the project should fall into one of the following themes:

  • Community development
  • Environment
  • Infrastructure
  • Eco-friendly technology
  • Education

Community Entrepreneurship

As this category’s name might suggest, it’s open to entrepreneurs with projects that promote the social and economic development of communities.

To be considered for the CEMEX-TEC award the project must have at least one year of implementation. Likewise, it must have direct and constant contact with the community within which it operates.

Some proposal examples include:

  • Business models that attract investments to communities and leverage local products and resources.
  • Projects that encourage the use of eco-friendly tech.
  • Initiatives that promote the sustainable management of natural resources.
