Banchile Inversiones and language-learning startup Poliglota have formed a strategic alliance to enhance financial literacy and foreign language competence in Chile.

The collaboration will allow individuals over the age of 18, whether or not they are Banchile clients, to access the online course “Learn Investments in English” for free. The course comprises ten chapters, and upon completion, participants will receive a certificate for basic knowledge of investments. They will also be eligible for a free English proficiency certification under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

This agreement is part of a broader covenant between Banco de Chile and Poliglota, which has already benefited 3,500 bank clients. Both parties express their commitment to reducing skill gaps in the country. “We believe that delivering quality content is the way to bring investments closer to people,” said Eduardo Torres, Marketing and Digital Transformation Manager at Banchile Inversiones.

Carlos Aravena, CEO of Poliglota, added that the project aligns with his company’s mission to break down the language barrier and open up more opportunities for Chile and Latin America.

With this initiative, Banchile Inversiones hopes to train its clients in investments and English and contribute to broader personal and economic development. “The future investment that is learning a new language through Poliglota’s social method has great dividends,” concludes Sebastián Torrens, Manager of Corporate and SME Development at Banco de Chile.

In 2020, Poliglota raised USD $2.5 million from Y Combinator, the same accelerator that boosted Dropbox, Airbnb, and Rappi.

The agreement with Banchile comes at a pivotal time for Edtech. According to TechX Media, global investment in Edtech has risen from $500 million to USD $16.1 billion in 2022, and experts anticipate an 18% growth in the education technology sector in the coming seven years.
